As I mentioned in a previous posting, I am going through a lot of change. Some days it is easy, other days it is hard. Its like I am walking across a bridge from an old way of being to a new one. Sometimes it is exciting, other times it is scary.
A friend was telling me a story this morning about being out on his motorcycle and getting caught crossing a bridge in a rain storm. He talked about how afraid he was because he could hardly see where he was going. He had to slow way down to get across successfully.
A light bulb went off for me.
As I am going through this change, at times, I want to rush to get to the other side. I don't always know where I am going yet I tell myself if I work faster or harder I will get through it more quickly. Doing so only increases the discomfort that I feel. What I most need to do is slow down and take my time. Rather than rush and work harder, I need to surrender to the change process and keep taking one step at a time. Slowly and steadily I will cross the bridge successfully.
